The Director Health Equity, will be responsible for the strategic planning and tactical implementation of the Health Equity agenda, to support delivery and growth of our global portfolio of programming. Make Health Equity a leader driven priority, embedding practices into the product portfolio to drive equitable access to healthcare – including digital health, clinical trial diversity, patient centricity, investing in rare diseases, open innovation and IP-sharing arrangements. Identify specific actions that address social determinants of health, advocating for a sustainable policy environment, international frameworks which promote health system reform and lessons learnt. Partner internal and externally, strengthening healthcare capabilities and systems, addressing unmet medical need, improving resilience and access to quality of services that foster improved health outcomes and equity for individuals and communities, to include solutions along a continuum of care - from prevention, awareness, diagnosis, and treatment to post-treatment and wellness.


This person will be a key point of contact for senior leaders , external stakeholders and internal collaboration with colleagues and peers, in respect of responding reporting matters and technical guidance.

You will demonstrate exceptional insights, knowledge and influencing skills to be able to bring diverse opinions together with a shared goal, meeting the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders. To do this you will develop close collaboration with cross-functional colleagues across brand teams, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs and our local affiliates/marketing companies, as well as within the Sustainability group and possibly across alliances.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as a thought partner and lead across different areas of AZ to drive and support execution of global and local Health Equity approaches

  • Advance AstraZeneca’s Global Health Equity strategy to articulate our vision and progress, while aligning to evolving external expectations

  • Responsible for the consolidation, reconciliation and preparation of information and data including insights & analytics for annual, monthly and quarterly reports as required

  • Proactively liaises with departments to instigate process improvement and finding synergies in the current reporting process.

  • Partner with the business to translate the Global Sustainability strategies into a clearly articulated, actionable plan with key deliverables that are accurately measured and reported upon

  • Lead collaborative efforts with key external partners to ensure our strategy is meeting/exceeding the expectations of our stakeholders

  • Landscape scanning, trend assessments, and risk forecasting for sustainability with a focus across our three pillars, Access to Healthcare, Environmental Protection and Ethics and Transparency

  • Take feedback and highlighted recommendations from reports , translate into impact and opportunities for AZ

  • Collaborate with internal enterprise colleagues to capture and articulate data and case studies

  • Responsible for bringing a proprietary intelligence driven external point of view into recommendations by leveraging a network of sources and publicly available information, either on brand or TA level, to support internal and external communication

Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or similar; experience in the healthcare sector strongly preferred

  • Experience in Pricing & Market Access

  • Graduate degree in biomedical science, business, or economics.

  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering high-quality deliverables to tight deadlines.

  • Several years of previous project leadership experience

  • Detail orientated and with good time and project management skills, with ability to manage conflicting priorities.

  • Budget Management

  • Line management across Global geography

  • Ability to make reasoned decisions under pressure

  • Ability to take people with you and bring the best out of others

  • Excellence and precision in communication: credible and persuasive

  • Entrepreneurial mindset to impact leadership and high emotional intelligence

  • Exceptional business acumen, strategic thinking and ability to translate theory into action.

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Excellent IT skills, including a strong proficiency in Excel.

Desired Requirements

  • Masters

  • Experience in working within a Global Foundation / US 501 (c) (3) or NGO

  • Experience in a commercial strategy function, e.g. managed markets brand director, business development director, head of pricing/access.

  • Experience constructing payer value stories and incorporating these into TPPs

  • Experience in country or regional pharmaceutical role
